Vic Corchero's campaign 2000 web page 2, issues:

Why vote for Vic to the Shady Cove City Council?

Because you should agree as I believe we should:

1) Want to restore public confidence in the Shady Cove Police Department.

Shady Cove Police department, being the small force that it is, must have all members physically qualified for all emergency situations. I will propose a yearly mandatory physical test be a condition of continued employment in the Shady Cove Police department.

2) Want to remove the apparent adversarial situations between the department and some citizens of Shady Cove. I propose that a Council review or Police review board will be held, with all citizens welcomed and encouraged to air their many grievances and problems that seem to have transpired these last few years. Judgments would be made after these reviews and either better citizen understanding is had or changes must be implemented into the Shady Cove Police department that will restore Shady Cove's tranquillity.

Mr. Les Weaver Addresses the Shady Cove City Council, September 21, 2000, subject Shady Cove Police, see Mr Weavers web page at : http://www.ccountry.net/~corchero/lesweaver.htm

3) Want to restore the public confidence in Shady Cove City Hall.

Citizens must feel welcomed to over-see all phases of city business.

Those deeds that in the distant past have been bad for the city of Shady Cove, including city boundaries, geography, geology,we cannot change, though we can try and many will affect today's decisions. Let us air all current legitimate gripes with all sides understanding the issues involved. In all cases let us proceed with a compromise acceptable to all parties.

4) Vic Worked with Daryl Hawkins and many others on the Affordable Water Alternatives Committee.

There are better ways of providing water to those with problem wells !

We intend that the citizens of Shady Cove will not have to live through the terror of another ill conceived water proposition that could have decimated their present life style.

If that water issue would have passed, today the 11 million dollars would have already been spent (almost 3 million dollars to the "EXPERT Engineers") and Shady Cove would be now asking for more money to finance cost over-runs. on most recent projects note: lift station 2, pump station and river crossing, it was 5 months behind schedule and with cost over-runs. Repairing sewer crossing at Hwy 62 and Old Ferry Rd, several false starts and cost overruns.

We believe that the benefits of reduced fire insurance premiums are grossly exaggerated. Those minimal savings of $5 per month, by bettering Shady Cove's fire rating from an 8 now to a 7 or a 6 possibly, are not worthy of discussion in relation to the Shady Cove water issue. Let's continue our support of Fire District 4 and the great job our fire station does in protecting our whole area.

5) We intend that the benefit of a lowered sewer rate to low income seniors be restored to seniors living in parks

As Shady Cove, with Mr. L'Estrange, decided that mobile park residents were less than equal citizens, this benefit was recanted from mobile park low income seniors. Their property (Homes have they invested in) don't count. If treated as 2nd class citizens, they will vote merely to protect themselves with no obligation to the city of Shady Cove!

Can Shady Cove, because these citizens do vote, expect to pass any further tax levies? The police levy must go to a vote again and mobile home park dwellers will remember.

6) The rights of law abiding, long established citizens of Shady Cove must be honored as well as all other citizens.

Change/progress should and must be as painless as possible to all citizens.

We intend to weigh the fact that I and other come lately's, cannot and should not change the character of Shady Cove with out some concurrence of the natives (long time residents). I accepted and decided to move into Shady Cove in 1993, as I observed Shady Cove, as it was then, in 1993. Change will take place with time, but it is not my goal.

7) We propose in late spring before fire season, after a 2 week notice, Shady Cove will contract to have all weed patches mowed as a fire prevention measure. Un-complying property owners will be honestly billed for the work done and the benefit will be the whole city being less of a fire hazard. We have been lucky this year.

8) Vic has been a Shady Cove City Council member from Aug. 1995- Jan. 1999 and on the Shady Cove Citizen advisory committee to present. (Did not run in the fall of 1998 for SC city council due to a failed attempt running for District 46 Oregon State Representative.) Vic has been on the URCC Board since May 1999, on the Shady Cove Boosters Board since 1996, interestingly, the URCC was on the verge of bankruptcy, just as was the City of Shady Cove when I became a member, they are both doing much better today.

During my 3+ years on the city council, before we had a city administrator, I was the Shady Cove Sewer Commissioner, where I believe I learned very well how to move stuff thru pipes.

9) In retirement, hobbies include web page generation, my own site, Upper Rogue Community Center, politics, rubber duck racing, etc. I belong to several church groups and to a seniors bowling league. I do not find enough time for bicycle riding, ping pong, or golfing. In intend to someday take up fishing.
