Bernardo Corchero Y Paule was born in Spain August 19, 1892. He had schooling and he could read and write in Spanish. Benardo was 14 years old when his mother Maxima Paule Corchero died and was not happy when his father Casto remarried almost one year later. Benardo was 20 years old when the family emigrated from Spain.
The Lopez family emigrated also at that same time, 1913. Calistra Lopez was a nice little fifteen-year-old girl. The families became reacquainted during that long ship voyage.
There were many young men and women aboard ship. When they got to Hawaii there were many weddings. Benardo stood up for the Hermosos when they got married in 1913. The Hermosos, Margie Corchero Burns' grandparents, and were her mom's, Ramonda Hermoso Reina's parents. When the Hermosos and the Lopez families left Hawaii for California Benardo traveled with them.
Feburary of 1916 Benardo and Calistra were married. They begot eight children. Born in Irvington, Mayfield, Gilroy and Decoto, now Union City California.
The famiy moved to Decoto n 1927 and lived on 9th street. Then in 1946 moved into their new home on 5th street. They were easy to find and always guests were plentiful. At that residence they both lived until each passed away. They remained lifelong friends with the Hermosos.
Benardo and Calistra were married one year short of sixty years. Benardo passed away at the age of eighty-two, on January 5, 1975.
Calistra out lived Benardo by over 23 years and still missed him until she passed away at 6 months short of 100 years old. Calistra passed away April 14, 1998.
They were an enviable couple, certainly a couple to model after.
